A small studio, one carving at a time
Z-OATH is a small, independent jewelry studio in China. We create myth-inspired necklaces in small batches, with pendants hand-carved in obsidian, agate and chalcedony.

An old craft, a different imagination
My background is in jade carving. At Z-OATH, I bring that experience to the darker side of mythology.
We develop our own interpretations of these figures, with close attention to their faces and the details that give them character.
The face takes the most concentration. A little more depth can change an expression, and a cut made too deep cannot be put back. Getting that part right depends on experience as much as the tool.
What hand carving means here
We use powered rotary tools, guided by hand. The carver controls the angle, depth and direction of each cut, changing tools as the form becomes more detailed.
From selecting the stone to the final polish, a pendant takes about 9 hours, excluding the design work.
